Selected Pics (8)

We started the day out with an 11:10am flight to Atlanta. After a 1.5 hr flight, we laid over in Atlanta for two hours. Our flight from Atlanta to Anchorage was a little longer. We got in at 6:33pm, but the 4 hr time change masked 8 hrs in the air.

In Anchorage, we were planning to pick up a rental SUV at Enterprise (GMC Yukon, Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition, or similar). They claim this class of vehicle can accommodate up to 7 passengers. We were just hoping it would accommodate 5 of us and two weeks worth of luggage. We were thinking of packing one of those fabric car-top carriers in case we had to put some luggage on the roof.

I say "were planning" because we decided to rent an RV. Even though we were going to get the rental car half off (P&G Personal discount), the RV was cheaper than the SUV plus the lodging. Woo hoo! Thanks June for finding one at a great price! We taxied the ~4 mi from the airport to Clippership Motorhomes. (Great Alaskan Holidays was already booked up and ABC Motorhome Rental could only manage a split reservation - come back halfway through and exchange.) Since we didn't get in until after business hours, we spent the night in a small cabin on the Clippership property and completed our registration in the morning.

Here are the highlights...
  • Taxi from the airport to Clippership Motorhome Rentals on 7/30
  • Spend the night in one of their two cabins on-site ($108 total)
  • Finalize paperwork on 7/31 and depart with our 36' RV ($1864.80 + $0.15/mi)
  • Return the RV on 8/7 by the same time we departed (they take care of all the emptying/cleaning - no extra charge)
